DAVE EGGLESTON'S STORY
Dave, a robust man with a robust and generous heart, loved life and lived it to its fullest. Unfortunately, his heart ceased one day in the Spring of 1995, leaving a void in the lives of his family and his many cherished friends. Even though he knew that he was in failing health, he never wavered from giving of himself to his friends, charities and business associates.
Dave was truly gifted. He was an avid fisherman, pilot, innovative entrepreneur and a valued executive with Southern California's Panelized Structures, Inc. As fundraising was also one of his fortes, Dave devoted tireless energy towards the fulfillment of City of Hope’s mission -- it was more than difficult to say no to Dave. He was a leader and a founding member of the original City of Hope Golf Classic, the predecessor to today’s golf classic bearing his name.
Because of the dedication and vision by people like Dave, City of Hope is able to continue its breakthrough research, providing life-saving treatments to thousands of patients from around the world afflicted with devastating cancer, diabetes and other diseases. We sincerely hope that, like Dave, you can stand up as a partner and as a generous contributor towards providing renewed life to all of those in need of hope and healing.
CITY OF HOPE
For the millions of people living with a life-threatening disease, medical research provides hope. For nearly a century, City of Hope has been committed to saving lives. Our researchers speed their findings from the lab to clinical trials, because patients urgently need better treatments for cancer and other serious diseases. At the same time, we are deeply committed to delivering compassionate, safe and humane care with dignity. Our physicians set the standard for cancer care.
We are one of only 41 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, an alliance of the top 21 centers that recommends national guidelines for treatment. Scientists at City of Hope have contributed significantly to the world of medicine and the well-being of patients throughout the country. Our research gave rise to synthetic human insulin and targeted cancer-fighting drugs such as Herceptin, Rituxan, Avastin and Erbitux.
It also pioneered the technology of bone marrow transplantation and continues to contribute much-needed progress in the fight against HIV and diabetes. And our experts collaborate with others throughout the world and train the next generation of scientists so their lifesaving legacy reaches even farther. City of Hope is moving into an extraordinary future of discovery. We depend on supporters like you: supporters who help us meet medical and scientific challenges not yet conquered, and some not yet known.
